Understanding your insurance provider’s coverage can be confusing. It is often difficult to figure out what your policy and insurance plan covers, since they may have changed over the years.
This technical language can be even more confusing when you or someone you love is in desperate need of assistance. Fortunately, First Light Recovery, a residential mental health facility, is In-Network Anthem Blue Cross Blue Shield (BCBS) and with a number of other major insurance carriers.
Our admissions staff can help you understand your insurance plan and what type of mental health plan you will be covered for.
Is Residential Mental Health Treatment Covered By Anthem?
Treatment for mental health and co-occurring disorders is covered by Anthem BlueCross of California. The Affordable Care Act requires that all health insurance providers cover behavioral health treatment (e.g., psychotherapy and counseling), mental health inpatient services, and substance use disorder treatment in some form.
In much the same way that Anthem covers any other medical care, they cover mental health care as well. Each patient must pay a copay and coinsurance.
Treatment Programs for Mental Health Issues
At Anthem, you have access to a large network of behavioral health and mental health care providers, which includes therapists and psychiatrists. With Anthem BCBS coverage, you will also have access to specialized residential mental health facilities like First Light Recovery.
We work directly with your mental health provider to find out about your coverage and the best possible treatment options for you or a loved one.
Anthem Policy Coverage
Include below are the different levels of coverage:
Health Maintenance Organization (HMO): HMOs limit your health care choices to providers contracted with the HMO company and often require your primary care physician to refer you to a specialist. Unless you have a medical emergency, you may be responsible for the costs if you choose to see a doctor outside your HMO network or without a referral.
Preferred Provider Organization (PPO): Preferred provider organizations are health plans that have a “preferred” network of providers in your area and don’t require referrals from a primary care provider (PCP). If you choose a provider outside of your plan’s preferred network, you’ll generally pay a larger portion of the bill than if you use an in-network provider, but most plans will still cover some costs.
Exclusive Provider Organization (EPO): EPOs are hybrids of HMOs and PPOs. Compared to HMOs, EPOs offer a little more flexibility, and they are usually cheaper than PPOs. However, similar to an HMO, you are responsible for paying for services outside the plan’s network.
